Virginio C. "Gene" Macedo

New Bedford – Virginio C. “Gene” Macedo, age 91, passed away on Wednesday March 2, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mary C. (Estrella) Macedo and the son of the late Maria J. Pacheco (de Medeiros) and Virginio C. Macedo. Mr. Macedo was a lifelong resident of this area and was the Proprietor of Macedo’s Pharmacy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary C. Macedo of New Bedford; children: Richard J. Macedo of New Bedford and Madelyne Macedo of East Providence; grandchildren: Joshua Macedo, Benjamin Macedo, Sarah Macedo and Joseph Macedo; great grandchildren, Noah and Ava; siblings, Alice Macedo, Stella Macedo, Theresa Brune and Natalie Stawasz; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mr. Macedo was predeceased by his siblings, Ferdinand Macedo and Mary Macedo.
His funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to St. Vincent De Paul Society of Mount Carmel.
