New Bedford – Jose Andre Pimentel, Jr., age 95 of Dartmouth, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Emilia (Fernandes) Pimentel and the loving companion of the late Maria (Baptista) Pimentel.
Born in Ponta Delgada, Flores, Azores, he was the son of the Maria (Vieira) and Jose Andre Pimentel, Sr. While living in the Azores, Mr. Pimentel served 5 years in the Portuguese Army during WWII and worked as a farmer. After moving to this country in 1970, he worked in the Maintenance Department for Cornell Dubilier for many years until his retirement. Jose enjoyed gardening in his free time.
He is survived by a daughter, Maria Pacheco and her husband, Antonio of Dartmouth; granddaughter, Sherri de Medeiros and her husband, Craig of Fairhaven; great grandchildren: Tristan and Victoria; children of Maria (Baptista) Pimentel, Ayres and Julia; many cousins in Canada and California; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pimentel was predeceased by his siblings: Antonio Pimentel, Andre Pimentel, Joao Pimentel, Maria Pimentel and Ana Rodrigues.
His funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the American Heart Association.
