Elvira G. Souza

Milton – Elvira G. Souza, age 88 of New Bedford, passed away on Monday February 15, 2016 at Season’s Hospice and Palliative Care following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Hemiterio “Emy” G. Souza and the daughter of the late Manuel and Elvira (Jesus) Goies.
Born in Algarve, Portugal, Mrs. Souza came to this country in 1950 and worked as a Fitter for Cherry + Webb Company for 36 years until her retirement.
Her family includes a sister in-law, Virginia Leon of Swansea; 4 nieces: Rachel E. Leon and Judy Mateus as well as 2 living in Algarve, Portugal and 3 nephews: Matthews A. Leon, Samuel B. Leon and Dan Goncalves.
Elvira was predeceased by her brothers: Daniel Goies and Joaquim Goies.
Her funeral will be Friday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 – 7 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
