New Bedford-Olivia do Couto (Rodrigues) Fonseca died June 10, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Fernando da Fonseca. She was the mother of Alzira Carvalhana and her husband Jaime of Dartmouth, Ramiro da Fonseca of New Bedford, and the late Fernanda Rodrigues da Fonseca. She was the grandmother of Ana Veloso and her husband Joseph, Joseph, and Kristina da Fonseca. She was the great-grandmother of Adam Veloso. She was the sister of Carlos Rodrigues, Maria Work both of New Bedford, Lucinda Rodrigues, Ilda Martins, Graca Rodrigues, Lourdes Araujo, and Laura Oliveira all of Portugal, and the late Manuel Amaral, Alberto, and Jose Rodrigues. She is also survived by several nieces, and nephews.
Mrs. Fonseca was the daughter of the late Jose and Leonor de Jesus (do Couto) Rodrigues. She was born in New Bedford, lived in Portugal and returned to New Bedford in 1960. She was a hand sewer for Kay Windsor for 22 years, prior to her retirement.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday June 13, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church South Dartmouth, MA. Visiting hours will be Monday morning June 13, 2005 prior to her Funeral Mass, from 8:30-9:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Charity of your choice. In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated.
