Manuel Furtado

New Bedford – Manuel Furtado, age 67 of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday December 2, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Neilza Coelho (Fonseca) Furtado and the son of the late Francelina (Medeiros) and Antonio Furtado Tavares.

Mr. Furtado was born in Lagoa, St. Michael, Azores and, after moving to this country, worked as a delivery driver for Helfand Dairy and an assistant cook at Sheriton Hotels until his retirement.
He is survived by his 3 children: Mario Furtado, Steven Furtado and his wife Sandra, Mandy Furtado and her husband Paul Sousa;1 step son: Ricardo Coelho and his wife Alice; 1 grandson: Tobie Furtado; 4 siblings: Joao Tavares, Jose Furtado, Maria Gomes and Maria A. Furtado. as well as several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes Mr. Furtado will be cremated. Prior to the cremation a visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. with a service to begin at 5:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
