New Bedford – Evelyn McQuilkin, age 96, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Oaks. She was the loving wife of the late Donald A. McQuilkin and the daughter of the late Emily (Franco) and Joseph Rebello. She was born in New Bedford and worked as a presser for M&S Dress Shop. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Sr. Citizens and a former craft teacher at the Buttonwood Recreational Center.
Evelyn was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes for special events, such as Christmas and Halloween costumes for grownups and children alike. She designed many wedding dresses worn by local brides. She enjoyed crafts and loved making beaded jewelry for friends and family.
She is survived by her 2 children; Donald A. McQuilkin Jr. of Chicago, Il, and Joanne McQuilkin of Fairhaven; 5 grandchildren: Christopher McQuilkin, Lisa McQuilkin, Rachel McQuilkin Lomax, Stephanie Williams Castagno, Ian Williams, 5 great-grand children and several nieces and nephews. She was also the grandmother of the late Jarret O. Williams and the sister of the late Irene Hedden, Alice Arruda, Manuel Rebello, Albert Rebello, and Joseph Rebello.
Mrs. McQuilkin’s funeral will be Thursday morning beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a service to take place at 10:30 A. M. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 – 8 P.M.
