Helen P. Sylvia

New Bedford – Helen P. Sylvia, age 95, passed away on Monday October 26, 2015 at The New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home.
A lifelong resident of this area, Helen was the daughter of the late Fernanda (Brandao) and Antone P. Sylvia. She was also the granddaughter of Mary Sylvia who raised her.
Ms. Sylvia was a graduate of New Bedford High School Class of 1938 and worked for Aerovox Corporation for 40 years until her retirement.
Her family includes 3 siblings: Edna P. Sylvia of New Bedford, the late Antone P. Sylvia and the late Mildred Rezendes and her late husband, Ernest; 2 nieces: Edna Walsh, who is also her godchild, and her husband, Edward, of Mattapoisett; and Susan Sylvia of Dartmouth; a nephew, Steven Rezendes of Sacramento, CA; special cousin, George Aguiar of New Bedford; as well as a sister in law, Clara Sylvia of Dartmouth.
The family of Ms. Sylvia would like to thank the staff at New Bedford Jewish Convalesent Home for their extraordinary care.
Her funeral will be Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial in St. John Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be Wednesday evening from 4 – 7 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
