New Bedford – Manuel Macedo, age 85, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the loving husband of Leonora (Souza) Macedo and the son of the late Urania (Ferreira) and Julio Macedo. He was born in New Bedford and spent most of his life in this area. Manuel worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Jr. Civil Engineer and served our country in the United States Army.
Mr. Macedo was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 1. He played baseball for the CYO for many years. Manny also played basketball and soccer for the vocational high school. Manuel was an avid Yankee fan.
He is survived by his wife, Leonora of Dartmouth; a daughter, Cathy Gonsalves and her husband David of Dartmouth; 2 grandchildren: Jacob Gonsalves and his wife, Katherine of New Bedford and Abbey Murray and her husband, Michael of Charlestown, MA. and several nieces and nephews
Mr. Macedo's funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church to begin at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home
