New Bedford – Albert A. “Zappa” DaCosta, age 94, passed away on Saturday August 8, 2015 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care. He was the loving widower of Priscilla Mae (Vieira) DaCosta and the son of the late Margarida A. (Silva) and Manuel M. DaCosta.
Born in Tiverton, RI, Mr. DaCosta was a retired Fire Fighter for the City of New Bedford. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Freetown VFW Post 6643 and 87th Infantry Division Association.
Mr. DaCosta proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII achieving the rank of Tech 5.
He is survived by his son, Douglas DaCosta of New Bedford, step-daughter, Barbara Alves of Fall River; siblings Antone DaCosta of New Haven, CT and Julianna Swan of East Haven, CT; as well as 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings, Manuel DaCosta, Herbert DaCosta, Manuela “Winnie” Enos and Frances Feijo.
His funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. with a service to begin at 11:00 A.M. Burial with full military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 4 – 7 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
