William D. (“Bill”) Hennessy, 91, passed away July 14, 2015 at his home in North Dartmouth. Born December 5, 1923 in Newton, MA to Helen M. [Doiront] Hennessy and William A. Hennessy, he graduated from Newton Trade School, Newton, MA in 1942 and graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1952 and then worked in the MIT Instrumentation Lab until he moved to the Dartmouth area. He was a Manager, Physics Lab and Professional Technician in the Physics Department at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth from 1966 until he retired in 1996.
Bill was a World War II veteran and served as a Staff Sargent with the 1074th Signal Service Company of the U.S. Army as a radio repairman in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe from September 8, 1942 and was honorably discharged November 30, 1945. He was married to Bernice C. [Leland] for 52 years until her death in March of 2012. He is survived by his brothers Edward Hennessy of Belmont, MA, John Hennessy of Burlington, MA, his sister Pat Hennessy of Melrose, MA and his stepson George Hoye of Jamaica, VT. He is predeceased by his brothers Robert Hennessy, Paul Hennessy and Richard Hennessy, his sister Helen Rogers and his stepson David Hoye.
There will be no visiting hours and internment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA 02532 at a later date. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street in New Bedford, MA.
