New Bedford - Margarida A. (Fernandes) Estrella, aged 83 years, of New Bedford, died Thursday, March 24th at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Antone Estrella. They were married for 62 years. She is survived by her 2 Sons: John Estrella and Alan Estrella both of New Bedford and 4 Daughters: Nora Estrella of Brookline, MA., Nancy P. Estrella of New Bedford, Susan Lucas of Fairhaven and Natalie P. Estrella of Roanoke,VA, 4 grandchildren: Grandson John Estrella, Grandson Christopher Estrella, Grandson Peter Lucas and Granddaughter Sara Lucas. She was the Great-grandmother of Alisha Estrella. She was the sister of Guiomar Fernandes, Arsenia Fernandes and Antonia Pereira all of New Bedford, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Estrella was the mother of the late Elisa Estrella. She was the sister of the late Aderito, Belmiro, Lourenco,Joao Fernandes, and Maria (Layett) Fernandes.
Mrs. Estrella was born in Sao Antao, Cape Verde Islands and moved to New Bedford in 1948 with her son to join her husband. She was the daughter of the late Augusto and Gertrude (Pires) Fernandes. Mrs. Estrella was a Master trimmer at Kay Winsor Mfg. until her retirement. She was a member of the Internation Ladies Garment Workers Union, as well as a Charter member of the Internation Church of the Nazarene. She held fast to her faith and was known throughout this area as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend.
Her funeral will be Tuesday March 29, 2005 at 10 A.M. with services at The International Church of the Nazarean, Pleasant Street. We will meet at Perry Funeral home at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. Calling hours are Monday, March 28, 2005 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
