Donald James Aspden, age 75, of South Dartmouth, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth after a lengthy illness. Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the loving husband of Gloria (Sabino) Aspden, and the son of the late James W. Aspden and Antoinette (Marchessault) Aspden,
Donald was a graduate of UMass Amherst and Boston College. During his long career, Donald served as Chief Financial Officer of the former Therex Medical Company; Treasurer of Arrow International; and Controller of Sun Chemicals, Continental Screw Company, and Cornell Dubilier. He was a former Dartmouth Town Meeting Member and served on the Dartmouth Industrial Development Financing Authority from late 1970–1980s. Donald was an avid reader of mystery novels and also enjoyed endless days on his computer reading the news and watching his favorite weekly programs. He dearly loved his grandsons and kept up with their scholastic, baseball and soccer achievements.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Monica Maranhas, son-in-law Derek Maranhas, grandsons Benjamin and Parker Maranhas, a brother-in-law, George Sabino, sister-in-law Deborah Sabino of Illinois and nephews Matthew (Stephanie), Mark, John, and great niece Olivia Anne.
The family would like to thank the Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association, St. Luke’s Hospital (PCU & Crapo), Dr. Matthew Messina, the caregivers and staff of Brandon Woods, and New England Hospice for their dedicated care and support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth beginning at 9:00 A.M. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Visitation is omitted.
