Avelino J. Fortes

San Diego – Avelino Fortes, age 67 of San Diego, Ca formerly of New Bedford passed away on April 22, 2015 . He was the husband of the late Kim Lee (Andrade) Fortes and son of the late Florinda (Almeida) and John R. Fortes.
Mr. Fortes proudly served our country in the United States Army and Navy, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He later worked as a Custodian until his retirement.
He is survived by his children: Jacob and Kareem Fortes and Joshua Andrade all of San Diego, and John Andrade of New Bedford, his sister Ann and her husband Joseph Silva of Marion as well as 5 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Avelino Fortes Jr. and brother of the late Peter Smith, Gabriel Billy Smith, Edward Smith, John Fortes, and Marianne Rodrigues.
His visiting hours will take place on Tuesday morning from 8:30 – 10:30 A.M. followed by burial with full military honors in Massachusetts National Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, Ma 02740.
