Dartmouth – Jose Linhares, age 83 of New Bedford, passed away on Friday April 24, 2015 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was the loving husband of Madalena (deMelo) and the son of the late Maria dos Anjos (Rego) and Joao Linhares.
Mr. Linhares was born in St. Michael, Azores and worked as a machine operator for the Frionor Seafood in this country for many years until his retirement.
His surviving family includes his 2 daughters: Bernadette Cordeiro and her husband Jorge of Fairhaven and Martha Spencer and her husband Terrence of Freetown. He was also survived by 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Linhares was also the great grandfather of the late Jack Cordeiro and the brother of the late Paulo, Joao, Isaac, Manuel Linhares and Gilda Furtado.
His funeral will be Friday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Thursday evening in the funeral home from 4 –7 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
