New Bedford – Gail A. Duarte, age 75 of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of Alphonse C. Duarte and the daughter of Irene (Sousa) and John Garcia.
Mrs. Duarte was a lifelong resident of this area and worked for the City of New Bedford as a Custodian until her retirement.
Known by her family as “Gail the Giver”, she was always there for people to lend a helping hand. She was a loyal member of the Moose Golden Age Seniors and a regular bingo participant at the Dartmouth Senior Center. Gail enjoyed yard sales but most of all, she loved her family. Her family was her pride and the center of her world. She will be missed deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Her family includes 3 children: Donna Franco and her husband, Tony, of Dartmouth, Susan Pinarreta and her husband, John, of New Bedford and Bruce Duarte and his wife, Jennifer, of Plymouth; 9 grandchildren: Anthony, Jessica, Alyssa, Tiffany, Courtny, Mathew, Jonathan, Lily and Brian; 6 siblings: Shirley Fernandes, Leno Garcia, the late Nancy Paiva, Richard Garcia, Sandra Tavares and Bruce Garcia; as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Graveside Service in St. John Cemetery on Tuesday, April 14 at 11:00 A.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the funeral home or to the family to assist in paying for the services.
