New Bedford – Manuel “Manny” Brune, Jr., passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Sacred Heart Home. He was 86. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Macedo) Brune and the son of the late Maria Leonora (da Silva) and the late Manuel Brune, Sr. He was born in Union City, Ca.
Manny was the manager of Swift Dart Subaru, and later Director of the Elderly Nutrition Program and New Directions for the City of New Bedford. He proudly served in the United States Army National Guard 211th Artillery Regiment for 20 years and attained the rank of Sergeant Major (E9). Mr. Brune was also a longtime member of the Harpoon Harmonizers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 4 children: Rebecca Fealy and her husband, Gary, of Mattapoisett, Mary Anne Sherman and her husband, George, of Connecticut, Jonathan Brune and his wife, Julie, of Maryland, and Rachel Brune and her partner, Ryan Carver, of California; 4 grandchildren: Matthew, Amy and Daniel Fealy, and Weston Brune Carver; siblings: Joe Brune, Tina Faria and her husband, Bill, Lionel Brune and his wife, Pat, Arlene Amaral and her husband Jack, and the late Mary Brune, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial with full military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
