New Bedford – Laurie Ann Alexander, age 52 of New Bedford, passed away on Friday March 27, 2015 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Julius Alexander of Florida, the late Laura (Machado) Murphy and the stepdaughter of the late Francis Murphy II.
Laurie was a life long resident of this area and worked for 29 years as a Job Service Representative for the State Unemployment Office.
Her family includes her longtime companion, the late Raymond Woodcock; 2 brothers: James Alexander and his wife, Melinda, of Florida and Dennis Alexander and his wife, Mary, of Mississippi; Godparents: Frank Machado, John Amaral and Genevie Spaulding; stepsiblings: Francis Murphy III and his wife, Jacqueline, of Virginia, Robert Murphy and his wife, Carol, of Florida, and Kathy Lavoie and her husband, Ronald, of Florida; Godson, James Alexander; caregiver, Karen Henriques and her husband, George; bestfriend, Ann Baptista; special nephews: Mason and Cory, special niece. Olivia; as well as many other nieces, nephews, step nieces, step nephews and cousins. She will also be missed by her beloved animals: Moe, Benny and Keecha.
The family of Ms. Alexander would like to send a special thank you to employees at Community Nurse and Hospice Care as well as Millie’s Girls for the extraordinary care and her co-workers for their continued compassion.
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, April 4 from 1 - 4 P.M. with a Service to take place during that time. Cremation will follow. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
