Boston – Jose M. Costa, age 66 of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Tufts Medical Center after a courageous battle with a very long illness surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Maria (Da Luz) Costa and the son of the Sara (Medeiros) and the late Jose D. Costa.
Mr. Costa was born in Ribera Quente, St. Michael, Azores, and has lived in the New Bedford area for 48 years. He worked as a Presser a CET Manufacturing. Mr. Costa was a former Parishner of St. John the Baptist Church and was also a member of the Holy Name Society. Mr. Costa was an avid Benfica fan and loved working in his garden. He was also know as Mr. Fix it and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Maria, of New Bedford; 5 children: Gina Rocha and her husband Larry Nogueira, Lee-Ann Da Costa and her husband David, Brian Costa, Christine Costa and the late Sally Costa, 4 grandchildren: Dylan and Lindsay Da Costa, Aedan and Lucas Nogueira, his Siblings: Artemisia DeSousa, Dora DeMelo and Lillian Eccleston, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Costa’s funeral will be Saturday beginning in the funeral home at 7:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, Ma.
