Dartmouth – Basilio C. Melo, age 81 of Dartmouth, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Dilia (Almeida) Melo and the son of Izaura (Cabral) and Jose de Melo Afonso.
Mr. Melo was born in Salga, St. Michael, Azores, came to this country in 1961 and worked as a Saw Operator in a fish factory until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Dilia, of Dartmouth; 2 children: Steven A. Melo and his wife, Maria, of New Bedford, Elizabeth A. Amorim and her husband, Carlos, of Dartmouth; 7 grandchildren: Michael William King, Jr., Zachary Steven King, Alexandrina Marie Amorim, Jessica Areias, Whitney Areias, Cierra Melo and Jaeden Melo; 1 great granddaughter, Ariana Medeiros; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Basilio was predeceased by 5 siblings.
Mr. Melo’s funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, Ma.
