Simpkin, Donald of New Bedford, formerly of Dartmouth, passed away December 8th at his home after a 3-year confrontation with melanoma. Born in New Bedford to Cecelia (Cabral) Ridings and David Simpkin, Donald graduated from New Bedford High School in 1986 and pursued a career in the healthcare food services industry. He most recently worked in Braintree at Kindred Healthcare where he served as Director of Food Services. Donald enjoyed the people he worked with, especially those who travelled the long road from New Bedford to Braintree each day with him. Outside of work, he also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and cheering on his beloved New England Patriots. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rose (Goosby); his daughters, Alisha Simpkin and Rebecca Souza; his “son” Agustin Quintana; two grandchildren, Aaliyah and Kyrell; a sister, Robin Tuttle, and her husband Adam of Athens, Maine; a twin brother, David Simpkin, and his wife Rayna of New Bedford; a brother, Kevin Simpkin of New Bedford; a sister, Pam Haller and her husband Tim of Concord, MA; a brother-in-law, Jeff Goosby of Washington; many nieces, nephews, step-siblings, and friends. He is pre-deceased by his step-father Abraham Ridings and his grandparents; David and Doris Simpkin of Dartmouth and Gilbert and Helen Cabral of New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with a service to begin at 9:30 a.m. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford interment in Rural Cemetery to follow. The family is thankful to the Community Nurse & Hospice Care for their compassion and support as he waged a heroic battle against this difficult disease.
