New Bedford – Wilhelmina (Silva) Sylvia, age 106 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Royal Taber Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Anthony Correia Sylvia and the daughter of Margarida (dos Anjos) and Francisco Silva.
Mrs. Sylvia was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a well rounded person working at Cornell Dubilier as an Assembler, a home nurse for the Red Cross and also did some work at St. Luke’s Hospital. Wilhelmina also graduated from the Wilford Hairdressing Academy.
She is survived by 4 children: Wilma Cinotti and her late husband, Robert, of Middletown, RI, Stephen Sylvia of Dartmouth, Paul Sylvia and his wife, Jean, of Gainesville, Fla and Claire Sylvia-Pianin and her husband, Lawrence, of Middletown, RI; 4 grandchildren: Mark and Donna Cinotti, Melissa and Reneé Sylvia; as well as 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by several siblings.
Her funeral will be Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial to follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 – 6 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, Ma.
