Mrs. Maria Idalina Linhares de Lima, 91, of Acushnet, MA, died peacefully at her home on Friday November 14, 2014, surrounded by her children and family at the time of her death.

Mrs. de Lima was born on August 23, 1923 in Ribeira Quente, St Miguel, Acores, Portugal. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Abel Inacio de Lima (1920-2009).

Mrs. De Lima is survived by six children: Noemia Pereira, New Bedford, John L. Lima, and wife, Kathryn, of Sharon, PA, Abel L. Lima, and wife, Karen of N. Dartmouth, MA, Louis L. Lima, and Dr. Jerome Crepeau of Provincetown, MA., Ligia de Medeiros, and husband Jose of Acushnet, MA and Aura Correia of New Bedford, MA.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Philip Lima, Keith Pereira, Jessica Lima, Craig de Medeiros, Kristy Pereira Amaral, Laura Lima Sowle, Paul de Medeiros, Marc de Medeiros, Jordan Lima, and Sara de Medeiros Carvalho and fourteen great grandchildren.
Two sisters; Armenia Machado of New Bedford, MA and Arminda Soares of Montreal, Canada;

Mrs. de Lima immigrated to the United States in 1961, and, lived most of her life in New Bedford where she was employed as a seamstress. Her life revolved around her family and homemaking. She excelled at quilting and fine embroidery, gifting most of her creations to her children and grandchildren as a legacy of her talent and love.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church while living in New Bedford, and a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church upon moving to Acushnet.

Mrs. De Lima’s family wish to express their gratitude to Community Nurse and Hospice Care of Fairhaven, Overlook Care at Home, and Coastline Elderly Services. Notable gratitude is extended to Mrs. Alzira Martins, C. N. A. of Overlook Care at Home for her devotion and service of over seven years.

Mrs. de Lima’s funeral will be Tuesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. followed by burial at Rural Cemetery. Her visiting hours will be on Monday from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
