New Bedford – Virginio Raposo, age 77 of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of 40+ years to Maria Anjos (Cabral) Raposo and the son of Victoria Daponte (Bento) and Guilhelm Raposo. Virginio was born in St. Michael, Azores, moved to this country in 1965 and worked as a Weaver for Berkshire Hathaway until his retirement.
A deeply religious man, Virginio was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He served in the Brazilian military and was very fond of wearing hats. However, Mr. Raposo will be most remembered for the love he showed for his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Anjos Raposo, of New Bedford; 5 children: Jose, Octavio and Germane Silva, Victoria Leung and her husband, David, and Elizabeth Correia and her husband, Jose, all of New Bedford; 6 grandchildren: Cheryl Silva, John Fortes IV, Brittney and Lindsey Oliveira, Jade and Dylan Leung; 3 siblings: Maria Araujo and Gilda Aguiar, both of Canada, and Jose Alves of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Raposo was predeceased by several siblings.
His funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening in the funeral home from 6 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, Ma.
