New Bedford – Jose M. Seco, age 72 of Dartmouth, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of 47 years to Julia (Gravato) Seco and the son of Estrela (Nanim) and Mario Seco.
He was born in Cova-Gala, Figueira da Foz, Portugal, came to this country in 1977 and was the Co-Owner and Captain of the Lady Laura.
Mr. Seco was a devoted member of the Assemblia Pentecostal Church for many years. He was also a member of the Fisherman’s Club and The New Bedford Fisherman Pension Trust.
In his leisure time, Jose enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and building model ships.
His surviving family includes his wife, Julia, of Dartmouth; 2 children: Diana Russo and her husband, Paul, of Dartmouth, and Nuno Seco and his wife, Jennifer, also of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren: Carina, Marisa, Gavin and Aidan; a twin sister, Rosa Batista and her husband, Mario, of New Bedford and their children: Bruno and Mario Zé; as well several other nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Saturday morning in the funeral home with visitation from 8 – 9:30 A.M. and a Religious Service to begin at 9:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements have been placed in the care of the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Luke’s Hospital-CCU and mailed to the attention of the Philanthropy Department at South Coast Hospital Group, 101 Page St. New Bedford, Ma 02740 or to the Mission Program of Assemblia Pentecostal Church, 215 Sawyer St. New Bedford, Ma 02746.
