New Bedford – Deolinda DaCosta, age 82, of New Bedford, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of Jose C. DaCosta. Deolinda was born in Faial, Azores and moved to this country in 1968. She worked as a stitcher for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Stella DeSousa, and her husband Isac, of New Bedford, Her beloved grandchildren, Stephanie DeSousa and Shane DeSousa of New Bedford and Katelyn Medeiros also of New Bedford whom she loved as a granddaughter. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Deolinda was also the sister of the late Rosa Leal, Maria Jose Alves Quadros, Jose Alves, Simao de Oliveira, and Manuel Alves.
Mrs. DaCosta’s funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 8 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Arrangements have been placed in the care of the Perry Funeral Homer, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
