New Bedford – Dorothy Furtado, age 84 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the loving wife of 65 years to Walter Furtado and the daughter of Mary (Pacheco) and Serafin Vieira.
Mrs. Furtado was born in Dartmouth, spent all of her life in this area and worked as a Stitcher at Mickey Madam Pocketbook Factory for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Walter, of New Bedford; 3 children: Sandra Chase of New Bedford, Alan Furtado and his wife, Kim, of Ohio, and Deborah Napier and her husband, Maurice, of New Hampshire; 3 grandchildren: Carol Candido, Jennifer Telo and Michael Telo; 4 great grandchildren: Christopher Candido, Stephanie Candido, Ethan Dwinells and Abigail Telo; a great great granddaughter, Skyler Bordwick; 5 siblings: Mary Braga, Emily Tavares, Isabel Cabral, Flora Roque and Charlie Vieira; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased several other siblings.
Her funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
