New Bedford- Viriato P. daCosta died Saturday, November 20, 2004 , at Blaire House Rehab Center. He was the Husband of Maria Ines (Raposo) daCosta of New Bedford. Survivors include his sons Viriato J. Costa of Spring Hill, FL., Osvaldo Costa of Sao Miguel, Azores, Mario M. Costa of New Bedford, MA., Paul M. Costa of New Bedford, =MA., Helder J. Costa of Dartmouth,MA. and a daughter Aida Guilherme of Spring Hill, FL., He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren a brother Manuel A. Costa of New Bedford, MA. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. DaCosta was also the brother of the late Modesto daCosta.
Mr. daCosta was a pressman at local clothing manufacturers. He was born in St. Michael, Azores, the son of the late Manuel and Eugenia (Pacheco) daCosta. Mr. daCosta was an accomplished musician & composer, having played piano professionally in St. Michael, Santa Maria and Terceira , Azores . He was also the conductor of a marching band on the island of St. Michael, Azores. In this country, Mr. daCosta played with a band by the name of V C 6 for over 20 years, which played at all types of functions. The band included his sons and son-in-law along with other members.
Mr. daCosta’s funeral will be Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 8:30 A.M. at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, New Bedford; Visiting hours will be Monday November 22, 2004 from 6-9 P.M.. He will be buried at St. John Cemetery.
