Albertina Castelo

New Bedford – Albertina M. Castelo, age 93 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of Lourenco Castelo and the daughter of Deolinda (Garcia) and Jose Madureira. Mrs. Castelo was born in Casteloes, Chaves, Portugal, moved to this country in 1966 and was a devoted mother to her loving family.
She leaves behind 10 children: Rosa Simoes of Palm Coast, Fla, Jose Castelo of New Bedford, Alda Morais of Jacksonville, Fla, Manuel Castelo of New Bedford, Maria Pereira of Acushnet, Antonio Castelo of Jacksonville, Fla, Paula Cabeleira of Dartmouth, Piedade Cunha of Fairhaven, Jack Castelo of Jacksonville, Fla, and Idalina Oliveira of New Bedford; a sister, Ermalinda Madureira of Portugal; 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 3 siblings: Elza Pinto, Manuel Madureira and Maria Madureira.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, May 28 beginning in the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend.
