New Bedford – Jose D. Pimentel, age 72 of New Bedford, died on May 5, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Zelia (Paiva) Pimentel and the son of Etelevina (Barbosa) and Domingos daCosta Pimentel. He was born in Rabo De Piexe, St. Michael, Azores, immigrated to Canada in 1972 before coming to the United States in 1979 where he worked as a meat cutter at Gaspar’s.
Jose was hardworking man who enjoyed watching soccer and rooting on his favorite team, Benfica. He was known by his family as being a jokester and was happiest when in their company.
He leaves behind his wife, Zelia of New Bedford, 3 children: Jose Pimentel, Jr. and his wife, Fernanda, Flavia Chibante and her husband, Paulo, and Delia Brager and her husband, Joseph, Jr., all of New Bedford; 5 siblings: Anterio Pimentel and his wife, Espranca, of Providence RI, Antonio Pimentel and his wife, Trindade, of Seekonk, Joao Pimentel and his wife, Mercedes, of Attleboro, Fatima Carvalho and her husband, Joe, of Canada, and Aida Gaipo and her husband, Manuel, of Seekonk; 8 grandchildren: Alexandria Pimentel, Cody Pimentel, Amber Pimentel, Monica Matias, Nicholas Chibante, Bianka Chibante, Joseph Brager III and Kelsee Brager, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Thursday, May 8 at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, beginning at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
