New Bedford – Robert K. Vieira, age 68 of New Bedford, died on April 25, 2014 at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Sandra (Whitener) Vieira and the son of the late Irene (Costa) and the late Manuel Vieira. He was born in Acushnet and, excluding his time in the military, spent most of his life in this area.
Mr. Vieira proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Army serving in Vietnam and Desert Storm. During his service with the Army, his many decorations include the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service, Army Commendation Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon. He was also a marksman with an M-16 Rifle.
His family includes his wife, Sandra, of New Bedford, daughter, Danielle Cox of Indiana; grandson, Dylan Cox; siblings Manuel Vieira, Brenda Waller and the late Diane Vieira; as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday, May 1 at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St in New Bedford beginning at 12:00 P.M. followed by a burial with full military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening in the funeral home from 5 - 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
