Reverend Jose Ruiz Alequin

New Bedford – Reverend Jose Ruiz Alequin, age 85 of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Margarita Durand and the son of Carmen Alequin and Jose Ruiz Rodriguez. Jose was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and after moving to this country worked in the Construction industry.
Reverend Jose was the President of a Church Corporation in Puerto Rico where he had 5 churches under his supervision. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed to make people smile and, most of all, loved being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Margarita, of New Bedford; 3 children: Margarita Ruiz and her boyfriend, Paul Collazo, of New Bedford, Ruth Collazo of North Carolina, and Jose M. Ruiz II and his wife, Kiamara, of Taunton; 3 living siblings: Olga R. Ruiz of Taunton, Elba Ruiz of Taunton and Juana Z. Ruiz of New York; as well as 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Jose was predeceased by 5 siblings.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 23 beginning at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
