George M. Varao Sr.

Boston-George M. Varao Sr. died Tuesday November 2, 2004 after a brief illness, at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the husband of Helen Rose (Vieira) Varao of New Bedford. He was the father of George Varao Jr. of Phoenix, AZ., Jeffrey Varao of Pierce, CO., Michael Varao of New Bedford, Theresa wife of Antonio Vieira of New Bedford, Joyce A. Varao of New Bedford. He was the father of the late Jean M. Melo, and brother of the late David Varao. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren as well as a niece.

He was the son of the late John M. and Mary (Vieira) Varao. He was born in New Bedford, and was a life long resident. He was the proprietor of Varao Oil Company before his retirement. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during Korean Conflict.

The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday November 6, 2004 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Family and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be from 7-9 P.M. on Friday November 5, 2004
