Fairhaven – Mary Alexander, age 100 formerly of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Alden Court Nursing Care and Rehabilitation. She was the loving wife of the late Frank J. Alexander and the daughter of Filomena (Perry) and Antone Angelo. Mary was born in Battle Mountain, Nevada but has been a resident of this area since she was 3 years of age. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a Bookkeeper for New Bedford Creamery. She was the former Secretary of the Bedford Towers Club and, in her leisure time, enjoyed sewing and needlepoint.
She leaves behind her 2 children: Ernest Arruda and his late wife, Vanda, of Wimauma, Fla, and Diane Arruda Bellefeuille and her husband, Richard, of Mattapoisett, as well as 2 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 10 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
Mary was predeceased by 4 siblings: Isabel Teixeira, Antone, George and Ernest Angelo.
Her funeral will be Tuesday, April 15 at 8:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Lawrence Martyr Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
