Richard George Mccleery

New Bedford – Richard George McCleery, age 75 of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at The Oaks after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Dale (Costa) McCleery and the son of Emma (Hamilton) and Andrew McCleery. Richard was born in Barrington, New Jersey, moved to this area in 1980 and worked as a Commercial Fisherman until his retirement. He had a fondness for cats and loved to play chess.
Mr. McCleery proudly served our country in the United States Navy attaining the rank of Seaman.
He is survived by his wife, Dale, of New Bedford; 3 children: Jason McCleery of New Bedford, Kevin Bettencourt of Dartmouth and Mandi McCleery of New Jersey; a sister, Doris Sullivan of New Jersey, a granddaughter, Alexis and several nieces and nephews in New Jersey.
Private arrangements were placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
