Acushnet – Bruce John Mello, aged 76 of Acushnet passed away on 17th of March 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband to Elizabeth (Boswell) Mello, which they just celebrated their fifty seventh anniversary on March 2, 2014.
Bruce was born in Oak Bluffs Marthas Vineyard, the son of the late John Mello and Florence (Bernard) Felix and brother of the late Brenda Folger. He was a liquor Salesman in his earlier years and then worked as a bus driver for Almeida Bus lines and eventually went on to own his own bus company, Seaboard Bus Lines until becoming disabled. He was an incredible athlete being inducted into the Livesy Club Hall of Fame for softball, a golfer with several hole in ones as a former member of Whaling City Country Club, where he also volunteered with the 9-18 club and was an avid sports fan. Above all he loved his grandchildren with all his heart and lived to watch them play recreational, high school and college sports. He was also very close to his son in law , Ed whom he considered the son he never had.
Special thanks to Dr. Matelski and his staff at Southcoast Cancer Center, his surgeons at Mass General and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Chris Ferreira and Deb Silva, his favorite nurses from South coast VNA and to Andrew Parent, Diane Holtkamp and his niece Janine Arsenault for giving him such special care.
Survivors beside his wife are 2 daughters; Kathy Mello of Acushnet and Kim Silva and her husband Edward of Acushnet and 2 very special grandchildren; Ryan and Halle Silva of Acushnet.
Bruces’ Funeral Service will be Thursday at 9:00 A.M. at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. Relatives and friends are invited to arrive at 8:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery . Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M.
