New Bedford – Joseph J. Patla, age 94 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of 71 years to Olive (Mello) Patla and the son of Katarzina (Miloszewska) and Peter Patla. He was born in New Bedford where, excluding his time in the military, he spent his whole life and worked for 27 years as a Police Officer for the New Bedford Police Department. Mr. Patla enjoyed travelling, fishing and, in his later years, like taking rides as well as going to Twin River’s Casino with the light of his life, his grandson, Lucas.
Cpl. Joseph Patla proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He is survived by his loving wife, Olive, of New Bedford; his devoted daughter, Leslie Gadbois and her fiancé, Jim Wassall, of New Bedford, his grandson, Lucas Gadbois and his fiancée, Carrie Shields, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Patla was predeceased by 6 sisters and 1 brother.
Private arrangements were placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
