Richard E. Viera

New Bedford – Richard E. Viera, age 65 of St. Mary’s Ohio formerly of New Bedford, died on Wednesday February 26, 2014 at St Luke’s Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Irene (Medeiros) Morock and Frank Viera, Jr and was a graduate of New Bedford High School. He worked as a Machine Operator at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and followed the company to Ohio to continue his tenure with them.
His surviving family includes his father Frank Viera, Jr of New Bedford, a daughter, Laura Jean Appeltofft; 3 grandchildren: Jessica, Zachary and Jasmine Appeltofft; 6 siblings: Robert W. Viera of California, Christine J. Viera of New Bedford, Russell F. Viera of East Wareham, Randall W. Viera, Barbara J. Dumas and Raymond M. Viera, all of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his longtime companion, Judy Medeiros.
Mr. Viera’s funeral will be Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, beginning at 10:00 A.M. with a Religious Service to begin at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
