Maria Daluz Carreiro

New Bedford – Maria DaLuz Carreiro, age 70 of New Bedford, died Wednesday February 12, 2014 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility. She was the beloved wife of Jose Carreiro and the daughter of the late Rosalina (Medeiros) and Joao Pimentel. She was born in St. Michael, Azores, moved to this country in 1967 and worked as a Stitcher at Paul Modes for many years until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she worked as a housekeeper for 11 years at various private homes to keep busy.
Her family includes her 4 children: Luisa Surprenant and her husband David, Susan Carreiro, Nancy Conroy and her husband Keith and Steven Carreiro; 5 siblings: Jose Pimentel, Manuel Pimentel, Ernest Pimentel, Fatima Duarte and Rosalina Ponte; 7 grandchildren: Alyssa Surprenant, Erin Surprenant, Zachary Surprenant, Jacob Surprenant, Mitchell Surprenant, Hailey Conroy and Rebecca Conroy; 1 great grandson: Alexander Temple, and is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Maria was also the sister of the late Dennis and Frank Pimentel.
Mrs. Carreiro’s funeral will be Saturday, February 15 beginning at 8:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements are placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
