Maria I. Mendes

New Bedford – Maria I. Mendes, age 79 of New Bedford, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Sacred Heart Home. She was the widow of the late Fernando C. Mendes and the daughter of the late Silvina (Filipe) and Manuel Joao. She was born in Quarteira, Portugal, moved to this country in 1970 and worked as a Stitcher at a coat factory for many years until her retirement.
Her family includes her 2 Daughters: Fernanda M. Moco wife of the late Antonio J., and Florinda M. Mendes both of New Bedford; 1 grandson David M. Moco of New Bedford; she is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also the grandmother of the late Michael M. Moco.
Mrs. Mendes’ funeral will be Wednesday, February 12 beginning at 9:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at The Chapel at Sacred Heart Home at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements are placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
