New Bedford – Natalia Raposo Silva, age 78 of New Bedford, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at her home. She was the widow of Uriel T. Silva and the daughter of Olivia (Moniz) and Manuel Raposo. She was born in Horta, Faial, Açores, moved to Lomba da Maia, Sao Miguel as a teen and resided there until marrying Uriel then moved to Ribeira Grande before immigrating to this country in 1974.
Before her retirement at the age of 72, she worked for Dr. Edward Moitoso, DDS, prior to that she was a machine operator for Carol Cable. Natalia had a passion for cleaning and cooking and her biggest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren
Her family includes her 4 children: Olivia Melo and her husband, John, of New Bedford, Ricardo Silva and his wife, Andrea, of Wareham, Valdemar Silva and his wife, Toni, of Dartmouth and Paula Alfaiate and her husband, Joe, of Dartmouth; 5 siblings: Manuel Raposo of New Bedford, Maria Goretti Castelo and Fernanda Martins, both of Jacksonville, Fla, Valdemar Raposo of New Bedford and the late Jose Raposo; as well as 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Silva’s funeral will be Monday, February 10 beginning at 9:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday evening in the funeral home from 4 – 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
