New Bedford – Ronald P. Surprenant, age 73 of New Bedford, died unexpectedly on January 21, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Shirley Fonseca, the longtime companion of Catherine St. George and the son of Valida (Deneault) and Elzear Surprenant.

He was born in Southbridge, Ma and, after moving to this area, he worked as a Laborer at Coyne Textile.

Ronald was very proud of his Native American heritage. He and his ancestors were from the Abenaki tribe.

His family include his wife, Shirley of New Bedford, his longtime companion, Catherine of New Bedford, his 3 children: Ronald and Brenda Surprenant, both of New Bedford and the late James Surprenant; 6 grandchildren: Shona, Joshua, Tyler, Kyleah, Aaron and Amee, 5 great grandchildren as well as 1 brother, Eugene Surprenant of Acushnet.

Visiting hours for Mr. Surprenant will take place in the funeral home on Thursday January 23, 2014 from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Cremation is to follow. Arrangements are placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St.
