Helia Pires Medeiros

New Bedford – Helia Pires Medeiros, age 58, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of Daniel Medeiros. Helia was born in Horta, Faial, Azores, daughter of Deolinda Goulart Pires and the Late Joao B. Pires. Mrs. Medeiros was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School and Bridgewater State College. She worked for the Department of Mental Health as a service coordinator.
Her family includes her 2 children: John Anthony Medeiros and Stephanie Deolinda Medeiros, Grandson; Logan Anthony Medeiros with another grandson expected; her brothers: Joseph Pires and his wife Donna, Helio Pires and his wife Carol, and Michael Pires and his wife Linda, her late sister: Ricardina Pires, her nephews Nicholas and Andrew Pires and the late Kevin Pires, her nieces Jennifer and Marissa Pires. Helia is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mrs. Medeiros’ funeral will be Monday, December 30 at PERRY FUNERAL HOME, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford beginning at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Sunday evening between 4 – 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
