Helen R. Varao

New Bedford – Helen R. Varao, age 87, passed away on Saturday December 14, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of George M. Varao and the daughter of Gertrude (Pimental) and Manuel E. Vieira. Mrs. Varao lived her whole life in this area where she was a dedicated Homemaker for her loving family. Helen loved watching NASCAR.
Her family includes her 5 children: George Varao, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Jeffrey Varao of Fort Collins, CO, Michael Varao, Theresa Vieira and her husband, Antonio and Joyce A. Varao, all of New Bedford, and the late Jean M. Melo; beloved daughter in-law Rosie Varao of Acushnet; as well as 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was predeceased by 3 siblings.
Mrs. Varao’s funeral will be Wednesday, December 18 at PERRY FUNERAL HOME, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford beginning at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday evening between 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
