New Bedford – Shirley Jernigan, Jr., age 87, passed away on Tuesday November 26, 2013 at his residence in New Bedford. He was the widow of Olga (Modesto) Jernigan and the son of Willie (Lawrence) and Shirley Jernigan, Sr. He was born in Woodville, North Carolina, proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II and, after moving to this area, worked as an Engineer for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 35 years until his retirement.
Mr. Jernigan was survived by his 2 sisters: Pattie Jernigan Tubler of Virginia and Annie Jernigan Springer of Pennsylvania and his close friend, Ema Pinheiro of New Bedford.
Mr. Jernigan will be buried on Monday, December 2 at 10:00 A.M. at Rural Cemetery in New Bedford. Everyone who would like to attend is asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements placed in the care of PERRY FUNERAL HOME, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
