New Bedford - Maria C. Areias, 48, of Acushnet, died Monday, September 20, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joao Areias. Mrs. Areias was the mother of Shawn O. Areias of New Bedford and Joshua O. Areias of Acushnet. She was the sister of Luis Oliveira, Liberia Rodriques, and Maria Medeiros, all of New Bedford, Isabel Marques of Acushnet, Joao Oliveira and Lydia DeSousa both of N. Dartmouth, Delia Braz of S. Dartmouth and Noe Oliveira of Westport

She was born in Feiteira, Pequena, St. Michael, Azores. She was the daughter of Maria (Correia) Oliveira and the late Joao Oliveira. Mrs. Areias lived in this area since 1971. She was a stitcher at Calvin Clothing

The funeral will be Thursday, September 23, 2004, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Rivet St. New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, September 22, 2004 from 6 – 9 P.M.
