New Bedford - John P."Cuddles" Ramos, 70, of New Bedford, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Ramos is survived by two daughters: Linda M. Ramos of New Bedford and Gina M. wife of Richard Moraes of Acushnet. He was the companion of June Cosme. Mr. Ramos was the grandfather of Jarrod J. Ramos, Jordan John Ramos, Richard Moraes II and Jonathan L. Moraes. Mr. Ramos leaves behind 2 sisters: Margaret Ramos of Kissimmee, Fla. and Beatrice Ramos-Fernandes of New Bedford, 3 brothers: Antone P. Ramos of New Bedford, Richard P. Ramos of Sunny Vale, California and Joseph "Butch" Barrows of Somerset. He was also the brother of the late Clara Sylvia, Peter Ramos Jr. and Daniel P.Ramos.
Mr. Ramos was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of his life. He was the son of the late Peter Ramos Sr. and Mini (Grace) Ramos. Mr. Ramos was the patriach of the family. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandsons, the company of family and friends and photography. Mr. Ramos was a Cadillac aficionado. He was the Vice-President of the Local 641-AFSME, Vice-President of Bisca Tournament Club of New Bedford, a member of the Cape Verdean Veterans Association, a member of the Young Cape Verdeans Athletic club, a former member of the Wm. H. Carney Lodge 200, a Ward 3 delegate, a Delegate to the Democratic State Conventions, a former member of the Cape Verdean Band Club, A member of the United Social Club of New Bedford and a member of the City Democratic Committee. He was a mechanic in the United States Army, and a Minute Man of New Bedford.
His funeral will be Friday, September 17, 2004 from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 A.M. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours are Thursday, September 16, 2004 from 5 - 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
