Antonio Sousa

New Bedford- Antonio Sousa, age 88, died on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa (Amaral) Sousa. Antonio was born in Salga, São Miguel, Açores, a son of the late Alexandrinha (Simas) and Manuel Bernado Sousa. After leaving Salga, Antonio moved to Canada for a short time before settling in this area in 1963. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his pet birds.
His surviving family includes his daughter Mary Teves and her husband Manuel of Dartmouth; godchildren: Deborah Pereira and Michael Teves of Dartmouth, as well as several other godchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Mr. Sousa was predeceased by his 6 siblings: Jose Bernado Sousa, Manuel Bernado Sousa, Serafim Sousa, Conceição Simas, Alexandrinha Simas and Maria Alexandrinha Sousa
Antonio’s funeral will be Thursday beginning at 9:30 A.M. at PERRY FUNERAL HOME, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Wednesday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
