Providence – Lawrence Gonsalves Sr., of New Bedford, age 74, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Philip Hulitar Center of Providence. He was the beloved husband of Lucille A. Gonsalves. Lawrence was born in New Bedford the son of the late Sylvia Taylor and the late Joseph Gonsalves Sr. Mr. Gonsalves was a life-long resident of this area and worked as a Truck Driver at the Portuguese-American Social Club. Mr. Gonsalves proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict . He was also member of the Portuguese-American Social Club.
His survivors include his wife Lucille; children: Rhonda Gonsalves, David Gonsalves both of New Bedford and Lawrence Gonsalves Jr. of California; as well as 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gonsalves funeral will be on Tuesday, August 27th at 9:00 A.M. at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:00 P.M. Visiting hours are Monday evening from 4-7 P.M. Family and friends are invited.
