Jose Januario Medeiros Sousa

New Bedford – Jose Januario Medeiros Sousa, age 63, passed away on Friday August 9, 2013 at Hallmark Nursing & Rehab Center after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Maria Fatima Sousa with whom he shared 36 years of marriage. He was born in Faial, Açores, Portugal, a son of the Maria da Conceicao (Tome) and Jose Sousa. He, and his family, moved to this country in 1981 and worked as Pipefitter at Cumming Corporation in Avon, Ma.
His surviving family includes his wife Maria Fatima of New Bedford; a son: Claudio De Sousa of New Bedford, a grandson, Austyn Gomes De Sousa of East Providence, RI; a sister Maria Fatima Fernandes of Faial, Açores, as well as 3 nephews.
Mr. Sousa’s funeral will be Tuesday August 13 at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford beginning at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 - 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
