Manuel A. Pacheco

New Bedford – Manuel A. Pacheco, age 77, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maria M. Pacheco with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. He was born in Faial, Açores, a son of Christina (Vieira) and Manuel Pacheco. He, and his wife, moved to this country 36 years ago. Manuel was a “jack of all trades”; working in the whaling industry as well as carpentry, landscaping and at a fish house. He was also a very religious man.
His family includes his wife, Maria of New Bedford; his 8 children: Nelia Correia and her husband, Antonio, of Acushnet, Manuel F. Pacheco and his wife, Doris, of Pennsylvania, the late Elsa Pacheco, Maria A. Pacheco of New Bedford, Christina Rocha and her late husband Troy, of New Bedford, Manuel A. Pacheco, Jr and his wife Elizabeth of Portugal, Natalia Pacheco of New Bedford and Renato Pacheco and his wife, Michelle, of New Bedford; 7 siblings: Lucinda Perreira, Fernanda Sousa, Jose V. Pacheco, Luiz F. Pacheco, Lourdres Pacheco, Norberto M. Pacheco and Antonio V. Pacheco; as well as 20 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pacheco’s funeral will be Friday, August 2 at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, beginning at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Cremation will follow. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A private burial of his ashes will take place at a later date.
